it should be illegal to write stories centred around emotional / tense character development and change to the status quo. only to right at the end give the most anticlimactic "and everything went back to the way it was before, and nothing was learned (maybe with a super small pretty much irrelevant change)"

it's mainly about episodic shows that try having an emotional episode, then right at the end remember they are episodic, and come up with the most last minute plot twist to have everything go back, which only makes it feel like most of the episode was a waste of time

  • Just shut up about "1 indexing bad"

    13/May/2022

    • The main reason 0 based indexing is 'the default' is because of C convention
    • C only did this for pointer arithmetic (item_in_array = array_start + type_size * index)
    • In general, stop complaining about languages simply because they don't follow c conventions (required semi-colon/no white space based syntax)
    • There is no magic philosophical reason why 0 based indexing is better
    • People normally count starting with 1, you might not notice but every time you're indexing 0 based arrays you're doing an extra -1 or +1 in your head
    • 1 based indexing is good in some reasons:
      • The first element, is literally the first element
      • To index the last item you don't have to array[ len - 1 ]
      • If the language supports negative indexing, it is more consistent: first = 1, last = -1; instead of first = 0, last = -1

I swear I'm going to punch the next person who says "We're building the metaverse!"

The dumbest part is that it even isn't a 'metaverse' most of the time.
The entire fucking point of a 'metavers' would be that it is open and connects to everything, like a protocol with interface apis. But most of these 'metaverses' are just different isolated proprietar platforms

It's like saying you're building a whole new internet, but all you're building is some proprietary site hosting platform and calling it the internet

  • People who want customization don't want customization

    06/Jan/2022

The point of customization is not that you have it only for the sake of having it, it's that it makes so you are less dependent of the developer to get to a configuration you like, as it's almost impossible for more than one person agree 100% on something

Honestly for most people, if they find a program that is by default already exactly how they like, they'd not mind it not being customizable at all. which is basically impossible unless the only user is the developer themselves

    dumb specific example

I like my phone virtual keyboards with a number row always visible, if some keyboard app has the number row on by default I honestly wouldn't mind if there isn't any option to toggle it. But most keyboards default to hiding the number row, so I'm dependent on they having the customization option to toggle it to get to the configuration I like

    26/Oct/2021

Been looking for some job or internship for the whole year, and honestly don't see myself getting one any time soon.
Bills or food is not much an issue, but damn, I want to get any money for buying the things I want, specially a new computer (rocking only a mediocre 2014 laptop is not fun).

Wish I could be doing anything, even a small amount for freelancing or something, but
    a) no good skills on anything
    b) college + voluntary stuff I do = already tired all the time
Should I open a ko-fi or something? don't know what to make for it, some drawing, even if it's bad? maybe some streams with attempting to code? I don't know.

  • ODD TAXI has a cool story! [No spoilers]

    05/Out/2021

ODD TAXI is one really good anime, maybe one of the best ones in the year, although extremely underwatched, you should probably watch it. It's one amazing story about this web of people with complex relations with each other, all brought together by the really chill personality of my man Odokawa, and the really nice vibes of the show, full with social critique and character study.

Really liked the way the ending twsits are hinted at during the show, and the intro, but still feel impressive to see at the end, it is one nice wrapping up everything ending.

Again, you should really watch it!

    15/Sep/2021

The annoyance of games like Garry's Mod, that have servers with mods, and when you join them you auto-download them; It wouldn't be a problem, if almost every server didn't have 100+ mods that can take an actual hour to download, and if you decide to not play there, you now have 1GB of random mods sitting there you'll never use.

'You don't have gigabit internet or a 1TB drive? Well, fuck you, the 10 different 4K texture weapon mods are totally necessary for the experience'

  • I don't get streams

    11/Sep/2021

I don't really get live streaming, in the, entertainment way. My main issue is the time and flow, as lives are generally quite long of 1h+ and of course because its raw footage, if nothing happens for 5 minutes, I have to sit there looking at nothing for gfive minutes; While a well edited video, with cuts and some effects, of anything is not just shorter but more content packed.

My second thing I don't get is the supposed interaction. If it's a small streamer with just up to a hundred or so people watching, it's actually kinda nice, people can actually chat with each other and the streamer most of the time; But with larger streams, of 200+ people watching, it just devolves into a spam fest of everyone trying to get the streamer's attention.

    13/Jul/2021

Trying to stick to to watching series one episode per week, even when all the episodes are out, and it's both painful and rewarding

In one hand, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT; In the other, I can keep interested on it for more time than watching everything in two days and not even thinking about it next week, also it gives me a schedule of things to do on the week. It feels more involved and memorable.

btw, ODDTAXI is really good, and recomend if you like mystery, slow burners and cute animal people.

  • Space stuff thoughts

    23/Jun/2021

People say "earth is in the perfect position, no too close to the sun, and not too distant, perfect for life", but forget that planets' orbits, including earth's, are elliptical, and the distance from the sun varies in the MILLIONS of kilometers along the year (145 mil km perihelion and 152 mil km aphelion)

Why on fictional planets containing life, the planet is always a single biome, it's either an entire sand desert, an entire ice desert, an entire ocean, an entire jungle, an entire tundra and so on. If it's a planet conatining earth-like life, it's 'geography' would also be more earth-like, with parts ocean, parts land, different climates and so on. Entire ocean planets are just a bit more believable I guess.

Also on scifi movies, why when leaving or entering earth it's shown more reallistically with needing large powerful rockets and heat shielding and so on, then for every other planet you can easily come and go with a little flying car thing without issue?

  • When is magic real?

    17/Jun/2021

When thinking about magic I generally like to think of it as "quirky laws of physics that nobody bothers asking why it works", but independently if it's this or truly supernatural, in scenarios where magic exists, when doing something, which part of the act stops being supernatural and starts being normal science? At some point the magic will start interacting with the natural world.

If someone conjures a fireball, is the fire itself (ionised air) being created out of nowhere, or are they actually creating a fuel and a spark and the fire is from normal combustion?

When making something float, are they making the object ignore gravity somehow, or are they applying a measurable force (Newtons) to the object to raise it?

If you do a healing spell, is the spell creating nutrients for the body to consume and heal for itself, or is the spell for fixing the damaged tissue directly?

If you turn something into something else, for example turning some object into gold, is it replacing each atom of the object with an atom of gold (keeping volume), or is it recombining the existing protons and electrons to make gold atoms(keeping mass)?

  • 🐲 Some fun(?) facts about having leaves

    04/Jun/2021

    🐲 -( ... )
I was thinking, and maybe for others it's a bit hard to understand the implications of having leaves as part of your body, so I decided to list a few things to share for now.

    • Sunbathing, very often. Having an open window for 12 hours a day is fine, though I also like darkness, and I like to be in it for some time
    • Insects, yes I have flowers sometimes, but they don't need polination, so bees being attracted to it is just annoying (I don't like insects)
    • [The ones on the face and tail] are very useful to tickle people, lol
    • No, these ones don't fall on Fall, they are tropical, not deciduous

Hope you found any of these interesting ^^__^^

(about) Trying something for fun, posts with '🐲' are from the perspective of me as my sona (did I mention I'm still furry trash?), though if I am to do a lot more of these I could hae another posts section just for it. Also for fun, comment on these as if talking to 'em, or not.

  • How do you compete in the communication flatform space!?

    14/May/2021

How do you compete as a communication platform like a chat program or a social media.
Specifically, how do you get off the ground in the first place?

For a service where the main point is to talk to/see other people... it doesn't matter how many cool features you have if there is no one [you'd want] to talk to/see there, so you end up in this circle situation of "no users, so no one joins, so no users, so no one joins, so no users", unless a bunch of people decide to swtich to it in a short time and stick until it becomes the 'status quo'.

Also, the main goal of any communication service is to become the status quo, people of course use multiple services, but no one uses multiple all with the same relevancy, it can get unpractical to manage multiple friends lists and threads in different places, and it's also harder for someone to want use two services that are in the same area.

See this with things like Signal (to Whatsapp) or any attempt at an YouTube or Twitch alternative

  • Thought process of being awkward

    21/Abr/2021

Thought process of when I'm interested in talking to someone:

    1. Worry about: I'm being dumb for expecting people to come to me, but me going after people feels me being needy
    2. Worry about how to start a conversation without being a weirdo or annoying
    3. Worry about not appearing uninterested but not too pushy
    4. Worry about not looking boring, but not being too full of self
    5. Worry about having topics to talk about but not being overwhelming
    6. Worry about not appearing like I want the conversation to end, but also not trying to be pushy about continuing
    7. Worry about wether or not the person doesn't hate me enough to not be annoyed if I try talking to them some other time
    8. Worry about wether the person is only putting up with you as a courtesy
    9. Worry about being a creeper for trying to talk to them multiple times or just a rando for not trying to talk to them multiple times

Come to conclusion: It's too hard, better not bother with human interaction

  • Tuesday sucks

    20/Abr/2021

People say how Mondays suck, but for me what really sucks is Tuesday tbh.

On Mondays it's the day you get back to doing things, so I at least get some energy of knowing I have some work to do, it's an alright day. Then it's Tuesday, the day when the energy already ends, the monotonous nature of weekdays hits again and you still have a long time before any meaningful thing you want to do.

It's not that it's a day where bad things happen, but that it's the most empty-feeling one that leaves me the most depressed and asking why are we here just to suffer.

Wednesday is not that bad because of the "you're halfway there", and the last two are good because of the anticipation.

  • email

    01/Apr/2021

I like email more than instant messages, there there isn't the pressure of being 'instant'; With instant messaging it implies and feels like for anything someone says to you, you're supposed to always reply as soon as possible, while on email it's the understanding that it'll take some time to get a response, you still want to do it soon, but people won't be annoyed by the fact that you don't check your email every 5 minutes. I have a thing of simply not liking messaging, specially group messages, If you want to say something to me, message me, as generally I'll disable group notifications (90% is random parallel conversation that I'm not interested in being notified of), if it's important, call me.

Also, it would be nice if email would still be a common contact thing to have, it's annoying to find someone I want to talk to, but all their contacts are on services I'm not on (I'll always be stubborn about not having a Twitter, Instagram, Telegram, etc.), while virtually everyone on the internet has email.

    26/Mar/2021

Here's some unpopular opinion, Google+, the failed Google social network, was actually fine.

To just get the bad things first, of course it failed, of course it was Google trash, and of course the time when they tried pushing it to sync with all your accounts was really dumb.
But honestly, it wasn't that bad by its own structures, the poing of separating people by circles was interesting, and the group functionality was pretty fine, I remember (with some rose tinted glasses) being in a bunch of games groups doing dumb preteen stuff like discussing FNAF and PokΓ©mon trainer RP (feel free to judge me). It's a "don't really want you back at all, but still have fond memories of when we were together" relationship.

[* I still refuse to have a Twitter account, so even if I can't interact, following people I like still is nice]
